Connect to Remote PC Through RD Gateway

SBS 2011 is designed to be an RD Gateway out of the box. Use the SBS console to setup users and assign them to their workstations. SBS does all the hard work for you.

Today, I was using Remote Web Access to connect a user to their desktop remotely. While I was connecting, I realized there was a shorter way to do this, without forwarding anymore ports. Here's what I did:

  1. Open Remote Desktop Connection from the remote PC.
  2. Enter the Computer Name of the desktop you want to connect to in the Computer field.
  3. Click Options.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click Settings... at the bottom.
  6. Select Use these RD Gateway server settings.
  7. Enter the public address of the SBS server.
  8. Un-check "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses".
  9. Then connect (or save for later).
